Many years ago I asked my county councillor whether something might be done about traffic speeds in Church Lane, Kings Worthy, round the curves at the school entrance. Answer: “Nothing will happen until someone is killed”.

Here we go again!

Now the proposal is that the school crossing patrol should be cut (Chronicle, January 18). The saving to the county council annual budget would be apparently be £1.1m, for 26 locations. That is, £42,000 each. Is the increased risk to someone, probably a child, worth so little?

This idiotic proposal must be dropped!
