A WINCHESTER man has been fined for breaching the terms of his criminal behaviour order.
Stephen Wilson, of Durngate, entered Winchester High Street on January 15, which he is banned from doing by a CBO made by North Hampshire Magistrates’ Court on November 1.
The CBO banned him from going to the High Street or entering Middle Brook Street, between St George’s Street and High Street for two years.
Appearing before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 16, Wilson, 35, pleaded guilty to the offence.
He was fined £80 and must pay £40 costs.
The order was put in place last November after he was charged with two counts of shoplifting.
He admitted stealing electrical items, including hair straighteners and a hairdryer, from the Boots store on High Street. Wilson stole a total of six items in two visits to the store in July last year.
Since the autumn Winchester police have been pressing courts for CBOs to address the chronic offending by a small number of people in the city centre.
CBOs, which have replaced ASBOs, are imposed by a court and can restrict where you go, who you associate with, and what activities you are allowed to take part in.
Breaching the order is a criminal offence, which can lead to a prison sentence.
