A MAN has been found dead in Winchester city centre.

Police were called to a property on Eastgate Street after the man in his 40s was discovered on Saturday, January 6.

The man's next of kin have been notified.

The police are treating the death as unexpected, with a file being prepared for the coroner.

A police spokesperson told the Chronicle: "We were called by ambulance colleagues at 10.58am on Saturday, January 6 after a man’s body was found at a property in Eastgate Street, Winchester.

"Officers attended. The body of a man aged in his 40s was located. The man’s next of kin has been informed.

"The death is being treated as unexpected and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
