AN outline plan for six self-build housing plots in the Hampshire countryside is being recommended for refusal.

The scheme is for the land south of School Lane in Denmead.

It is due to be decided by Winchester City Council's planning committee on Wednesday, January 10.

In the planning officers' report, it said: “The application site is outside of a settlement boundary and the proposed development would conflict with policies in the Development Plan which define the area as countryside.

“Whilst the benefits of the proposal in terms of delivering six custom and self-build plots are acknowledged this benefit would not in this instance outweigh the harmful impacts identified in relation to the significant conflict with the development strategy contained within the Local Development Plan and the character of the area.

“It is therefore recommended that planning permission should be refused.”

The application received 84 objections and 21 supporting comments. Denmead Parish Council submitted a 'strong objection'.

John Elson, of Uplands Road, Denmead, said: “The site is agricultural land and housing in this location would be completely inappropriate. If permitted then this development will set a precedent that will soon see applications being submitted for the other agricultural land locally.”

Paul Benfield, of Brightside, Waterlooville, said: “I fully support this, what a fantastic idea, good luck to you this will help the area big time they need more homes.

“But remember the Nimby's will always complain as they don't want you to do anything that they consider to be their backyard.”

The application will be decided by the city council's planning committee on Wednesday, January 10.
