An Alresford man is set to spend New Year in prison because he did not attend a sentencing hearing.
Kevin Purdue, 50, had admitted assaulting a woman on August 3 and failing to give a drugs test sample to police when arrested for possession of a class A dug on September 1, a court heard.
Purdue, of John Arlott Court, was due to be sentenced on Thursday December 21 but did not attend Basingstoke Magistrates Court.
The magistrates issued an arrest warrant which led to the police arresting him and taking him to the court on Wednesday December 27.
They told Purdue that he would be remanded in custody until sentencing on Monday January 8 because he had failed to surrender and was "unlikely to cooperate". It will enable a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
