A DRUG driver has been banned from the road for 17 months.

James Smithers, 36, of Winnall Manor Road, Winnall, Winchester was stopped by the police on the A31 on September 23, a court was told.

Smithers, who was driving a 10-reg Skoda Fabia, was tested for cocaine and the BZE cocaine breakdown product.

For cocaine he returned a reading of 121ug/l when the legal limit is 10, making him 12 times the legal limit. For BZE his reading was 800ug/l when the limit is 50, meaning he was 16 times the limit.

Smithers admitted both charges in court on Thursday, December 21.

Magistrates in Basingstoke banned him for 17 months and imposed a £200 fine.
