A DEVELOPER, currently preparing a major scheme for South Winchester Golf Club, has launched a sport survey.

The Winchester sports and leisure survey has been started by Bloor Homes to better understand the activities residents enjoy, and what facilities they feel are needed for the city.

Bloor Homes unveiled a masterplan for Manor Parks in July which includes a park and ride, a primary school, a tennis facility, and a large country park.

The Manor Parks masterplan, at South Winchester Golf Club, shows there will be around 1,000 homes and that half the site will be retained as green space.

Bloor Homes intends to provide significant sport and leisure, but want to ensure that the facilities are in line with residents’ priorities.

The survey is available at tinyurl.com/WinchesterSportSurvey, and will be open until mid-February.

The next session will be on the topic of 'Sport, Leisure, and Nature' and will take place in late January.

The developer will discuss the current thinking in terms of what sport and leisure facilities are planned, as well as the open space Manor Parks will provide.

James Matcham, strategic land director, said: “We believe that Manor Parks can be a great part of Winchester, that gives back to the community by offering local facilities that help build on the fantastic array of sport and leisure opportunities already available.

“We plan to provide a number of new sport and leisure facilities at Manor Parks, but it is important to us that these align with the priorities of the people of Winchester, as far as possible.

“As such, we want residents to have their say on what the city needs in terms of sport and leisure. We want to invite as many people as possible to take part in this survey and help shape the facilities of the future.”

Emma Back, chief executive of the Winchester Sport Art and Leisure Trust (SALT), said: “Sport is so important for people's health and wellbeing, so it's great to see a local developer putting it at the heart of their plans and consulting residents early to find out what they want and need. I would really encourage anyone who takes part, or who wants to take part, in sport and leisure activities to fill in this survey and shape Winchester's future.”
