With so much disquiet over the situation regarding the future of the Crosfield Hall, it is surely time for a full-scale consultation over what is the best and preferred solution.

As the latest report 'A Vision for Romsey' states: "Ensuring that the people in Romsey have their voices heard and are able to contribute to decision making for Romsey informed by the needs and ambitions of the people who live, work and play here."

I offer the following suggested plan of action:

In order for us all to be properly informed at the outset, an analysis of the current users of the hall's facilities (main hall, stage, annexe, kitchen and small meeting rooms) needs to be published. Test Valley BC already has all this information.

At the same time all the present users (regular and occasional) should be surveyed to ascertain their views on the current facilities and what improvements they would like to see in a new or refurbished Community Hall. It should not be a matter of concerned individuals, like myself, finding the time to talk to these people.

Would-be hirers should also be encouraged to submit their views on what facilities they would like to see in a remodelled hall.

If there is then a clear call for a completely new state-of-the-art hall to be built, fit for the cultural and community demands of the second half of the 21st century, the precise location of it should lead to further consultation. If somewhere on the Romsey Rapids site was still an option exactly where would it be? Consultation on the plans for the 'new' hall should then be offered at every stage.

It is not clear which body should be responsible for organising the initial surveys and publishing the results - Romsey Future or Test Valley BC? According to their report Romsey Future would carry out the full-scale consultations at every stage so presumably they should conduct the surveys? However, nothing should be done half-heartedly.
