A TEST Valley archery club has found a new temporary home after it was threatened with closure.

Romsey Archers had been shooting at Longacre Farm, in Sandy Lane, Abbotswood, until they were told they needed to find a new home in May.

After months of searching, they have found a temporary base at Annart Farm, Carters Clay Road, in Lockerley.

Over the next few months, the club is holding taster sessions for beginners.

Ivan Taylor, from the club, said: “After a lot of searching and numerous dead ends we have successfully found another site albeit temporary.

Hampshire Chronicle: New home for Romsey Archers

“It is with great joy we can announce that Romsey Archers have a new temporary site.

“I’m afraid that Covid has affected membership of our club as it has with many other groups and associations. We therefore would like to get our message out to potential new members as soon as we can.

“The club was originally formed 75 years ago and known then as Timsbury Manor Bowmen.”

Mr Taylor said that the club is still looking for a permanent home, but the temporary arrangement will continue into the new year.

The club is running taster sessions on Saturday, December 9 and 16 for a fee of £10.

They are also running beginner sessions on January 13, 20 and 27. Also February 10, 17 and 24.

Romsey Archers has several Archery GB-qualified coaches. Mr Taylor added: “At present we only shoot outdoors but for very many years we also shot indoors each week in the gym at Mountbatten School. That ceased during the recent pandemic after which the school required the area in which we stored our equipment for their own use.”
