LLOYDS has closed its West Street bank branch in Alresford.
As reported, it shut for the last time on Monday, leaving just Nationwide offering bank services in the town.
Local MP Steve Brine commented: “Lloyds maintain this branch has one of the smallest footfalls in the network so it was always a matter of time.
“I remain in touch with the bank - because they own the freehold - as clearly there are implications for the town of such a large commercial property (three storeys) sitting empty.”
Mr Brine has been talking to LINK about a banking hub in the town or a cash machine but says that is unlikely as Lloyds is not the last bank in the town and there is a cash machine in the Co-op as well as the Nationwide branch, also on West Street.
He added: “I am due to meet shortly with the Co-op and their relationship managers for our area - just to satisfy myself on behalf of constituents - that counter services remain where they should be and access to the (now only) ATM in town is secure.”
Most small towns have lost their bank branches in recent years with the growth of online banking.
