A NEW hair salon has opened in Winchester city centre.

Located on St George’s Street, Wild and Pure opened on Thursday, November 9.

Owner Leanne Clarke told the Chronicle: “It feels really good to be up and running. We’re really pleased with the space, and I’m really grateful for all my existing clients who have made appointments and have come to see me and give us well wishes – it’s been really nice.

We want to feel like your home away from home, you’re not necessarily in a salon you’re in a nice space where you can relax, work, read magazines.”

Leanne also said that she wanted Wild and Pure to be sustainable, partnering the salon with the charity Recycle Me, which will collect, clean and recycle foil.

She said: “I think doing things like that which have a better impact on the environment, I think all companies should be doing more to help.”

Wild and Pure is in the shop space that was previously home to Bibas Hair, which, as previously reported, closed its doors for good at the end of August.

Obviously, people say ‘Oh, there’s loads of salons in Winchester’, but actually I have just taken on one that was already here, and here for quite some time.

"I think Bibas Hair was here for 27 or 28 years, which is quite a while for a salon to exist for, so I feel quite honoured to take over the space and bring new life to it.

“I was a salon manager at a different salon in Winchester, and I have experience doing various things. I’ve worked teaching VQ level three, that is where my background is, but I’ve come back to hair dressing, and I’m looking forward to running my salon again.”
