The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for a thunderstorm this morning in Winchester

Forecasters have warned that the south of the country may experience thundery rain on Tuesday, November 14. 

A yellow weather warning is in place from 5am until midday, covering Basingstoke, Andover and Winchester.

The Met Office say: "A band of squally, thundery rain is likely to push quickly east across the warning area through Tuesday morning."

Forecasters warn that the weather may cause "some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes or strong and gusty winds."

The warning adds: "There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus

"Delays to train services and journeys by plane are possible. Some short term loss of power and other services is likely."

At the time of writing, heavy rain is forecast in Winchester from 10am until midday.

The full forecast for November 14 reads: "Dry and bright at first, before an organised band of squally showers, with hail and thunder moves eastwards during the morning, before clearing early afternoon.

"Becoming drier and brighter, with sunny spells through the afternoon. Windy on coasts. Rather mild. Maximum temperature 13 °C."
