Polizia Pizza gets permission to move into the Black Bottle

Polizia Pizza now has planning permission to open in the former Black Bottle, in Bridge Street.

Two plans have been permitted. One to change the use to a restaurant and another for signage. 

Both were approved by Winchester City Council planning officers using delegated powers on Thursday, October 26. 

The officers' report for the signage said: “The proposal seeks to change the existing signage to match the branding of the new occupant. The proposed signage would be painted on and non-illuminated.

“Concerns have been raised in regard to colour scheme. Amended plans have been submitted to change the colour scheme to a black and gold rather than red and white. This is considered to be more appropriate for the building and the surrounding area.

“There are a number of residential properties in close proximity to the site and the signage does not create an adverse impact on other neighbouring uses, including the hotel and commercial premises.”

The report for the change of use said: “It is not considered that the proposed use would be detrimental to the character of the area as the use would have similar operation hours.

“The proposal would change advertising on the front and side elevations which have been considered under 23/00570/AVC. The amended plans show an appropriate colour palate and the paint details submitted are considered to be acceptable.

“The proposed development will be visible from the neighbouring property to the North of the application site. As the site would not result in any additions to the building it is not considered that the proposal would result in overlooking, overbearing or loss of light to these neighbours.

“The proposal would result in a restaurant use and therefore is expected to produce noise and odour from the machinery used.”

The Black Bottle closed in July to make way for Polizia Pizza. It pioneered the local use of self-serve wine in the city.
