A YOUNG girl from Timsbury is preparing to run 10 miles from her home to Stockbridge to raise money for charity.

Eleven-year-old Elizabeth Pratt is completing the challenge to fundraise for the organisation Foxies Future, which is aiming to purchase the Foxlease Centre in the New Forest for the continued use of Scout and Girl Guiding groups in the area.

Elizabeth’s mum, Annie, who will join her on the run, told the Advertiser: “The run is on Sunday, November 26. Elizabeth decided to do it herself, in order to raise money for Foxlease.

“Girl Guiding owns a number of centres, and Foxlease is one of those, and they have nationally made the decision to sell the property and the grounds. It’s been in the Girl Guiding community for tens of years, and I know multiple generations of people have used the site and facilities.

“So, a separate charity has been established, which is hoping to raise enough funds to get a mortgage in order to purchase the Foxlease from the Girl Guiding Association, so Girl Guides and Scouts and other organisations can continue to use it.

“Elizabeth is part of the 1st Lockley Guides and they are trying to encourage their members to raise as much money as possible, and that’s when she came up with the idea of running 10 miles.

“We’ve never done anything quite like this before, and the training is quite intense!”

At time of writing, Elizabeth has raised £520 for the charity.

She wanted to thank those who have already donated, saying: “I feel really motivated by it all.

“I want to say thank you, because I know how difficult it is for people at the moment. Thank you for supporting me.”

Annie added that she is “very proud” of Elizabeth, saying: “She’s an inspiration. We’ve been out running together four times a week, and she’s always so happy and positive and chatty, which is difficult when we’re running!

“It’s a pleasure, and it’s helping to motivate me as well! We’re hopeful that the money will be put to good use.”
