VISITORS to a Test Valley village will be able to trace its history back to 1066 with a two-day display.

Ann Harkus, with the help of fellow villagers, has organised an exhibition exploring the “rich and varied history” of West Tytherley.

The village held a similar event nine years ago but has since had new people move to the area so residents have been calling for a new exhibition.

On Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, from 11am-4pm, visitors will be able to explore West Tytherley’s history at King Edward’s Hall through documents, pictures and artefacts, including the background of the wealthy families who owned the village.

A comprehensive history of the life of each of the soldiers on the village war memorial who died in the First and Second World Wars will also be featured.

Mrs Harkus has lived in the village for 50 years and has been collecting its history for the past 20 years.

She said: “West Tytherley has a rich and varied history which a lot of people are not aware of. It’s very sad because generations were born in the village but fewer and fewer remember its history.

“The heritage is very much a part of the village’s culture. The main aim is to put together a book so we can keep it forever. I keep all the archives in the village and I’d like to put a book together for people that are interested.”

Entry costs £1 for adults, children go free. Refreshments will be available.
