HERE are some great places to visit in and around Winchester this half-term.

Time has flown by and half-term is already just around the corner, we know that it can be pretty difficult to decide what to do to entertain the kids this time of year, so let us help.

There are a number of spooky events in and around Winchester, from ghost tours to arts and crafts.

Halloween half-term will run from Monday, October 23 to Friday, October 27, giving you a week to enjoy these fun activities.

Here is a list of five activities in and around the town to enjoy this Halloween half-term:

1.  Science Spooktacular at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium

A spooky, yet educational Halloween activity to enjoy in the city, organisers of the Science Spooktacular at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium say "This trick-or-treat season will be full of science treats."

Join Skully the Skeleton for a fiendishly fun trick-or-treat trail around the Science Centre.

Visitors can expect to "swap spooky scares for frightfully fun science facts about the perhaps not-so-creepy creatures associated with the season of frights."

The event is running from October 7, to October 30, and a 'mini monster disco' will be held every day at 4pm from October 20 to October 30, with children encouraged to dress up for the event.

5. Scary Saxons and Peculiar Potions at 878 AD

This fun and educational experience in the Brooks Centre in Winchester allows visitors to "work with Winchester’s local healers and leeches to create cures, supply salves and help heal the good folk of Wessex."

Interactive sessions will allow visitors to "experience the peculiar potions of the past" and even allow you to try creating your own.
