A KINGS WORTHY man has written a puzzle book to help people stave off the signs of dementia.

Dr Tim Beanland's book Mind Games contains more than 150 puzzles and will be published on Thursday, October 12.

Dr Beanland has worked at the dementia charity Alzheimer’s Society since 2010 and is now head of knowledge and learning.

He explained how his book is partly a fundraiser, with a proportion of the money going to charity. This will help Alzheimer’s Society continue to support people with dementia and fund research.

Dr Beanland said: “Mind Games is a fun way to give the brain a workout.

“I’ve included puzzles that exercise different parts of the brain which get harder as you work through the book.”

As explained by his text alongside the puzzles, the idea is that regularly exercising the grey matter like this can help reduce the chances of getting dementia.

Dr Beanland said that, as well as doing puzzles there are other ways of stimulating the brain and help reduce dementia, such as learning a new instrument, language or even picking up a new hobby.

He added: "We can also promote good brain health by looking after our physical health through regular exercise, a balanced diet and so on.”

Mind Games is published by Penguin on Thursday, October 12 and is available to buy from bookshops and online retailers.
