A HISTORICAL church near Winchester has established itself as a centre for music events.
St Mary’s Church in Twyford started putting on shows in 2022 and among the artists who have already performed have been Mary Gauthier, Plainsong, The Delines and blues maestro Aynsley Lister.
The purpose of these shows is to raise funds for church restoration and to ensure that the ancient building remains a lively meeting place.
Twyford promoter Oliver Gray has been busy lining up new shows for autumn 2023 and into the next year. The appearance by Oregon’s Laura Veirs on November 26 has already sold out but on September 30 there are a few tickets left for a performance by Grant-Lee Phillips.

Winchester promoters Mirrorman also have a programme at St Mary's, including quirky Icelandic singer Hafdis Huld on November 17 and for next year have already secured a performance by Martin Simpson and a reappearance by Aynsley Lister.
Mr Gray, meanwhile, has booked a show featuring Ashley Campbell, who is the daughter of US country legend Glen Campbell.
That performance will take place on February 16.
Tickets for all these shows are available from wegottickets.com/sc4m or mirrormanshop.bigcartel.com/.
