Around 800 runners took part in the Winchester Half-Marathon, taking in the city's sights and surrounding countryside.

WADAC's George King won the event for the second year in a row with an impressive time of 73 minutes.

At 9am, on Sunday September 24, the runners set off from outside The Guildhall, up the High Street, before turning left into St Maurice's Covert.

Winner George King said: “It was tough, I did it last year so I knew what was coming with the hills. It's a great course and my home town so it's special. The time was around 73 minutes. I've ran 67 minutes before on a fast course. But today, on that course, I'm happy with the time.”

Event manager Jo Shaw said: “Since Covid, numbers have been much lower but we've managed to get 800 people on the start line which is great and we hope to promote it more for next year. Challenging Events took over organising it this year, only about three months ago. Hopefully next year we can get more numbers. The start line is amazing, on the steps of the Guildhall, it is beautiful. The route is stunning with the High Street section, through the town and then the amazing countryside route. It's very hilly around Winchester!”
