AFTER a year-long delay, hiring posters have gone up in a new Turkish restaurant ahead of its launch.

Turkuaz founder and owner Cevdet Mutlu said the restaurant, in Winchester, should be opening in about six weeks.

The business was originally preparing to open in the historic building in Jewry Street last September before the opening date was postponed until mid-February.

The launch was then pushed back again, with plans to open it at an unspecified date between the end of April and middle of May and then again until the end of July.

Mr Mutlu previously said the delays were caused by issues with a series of electronic dart boards he hopes to have for when the restaurant opens.

Posters advertising for staff have recently gone up in the windows, with open positions for waiters, food runners, mixologists, a sous chef, a commis chef, kitchen porters and hosts.

Dinner and lunch will be available, with menu options including cold or hot meze, grilled meats, steaks and burgers, moussaka, fish and salads.

The restaurant will be open from 10am to 10.30pm, have room for up to 140 customers and create 14 jobs.

The Tudor building was previously occupied by seafood and grill restaurant Loch Fyne which closed in 2020.

There are currently eight Turkuaz restaurants across the south, including in Dorking, Newbury and Horsham.

The website for the new Winchester branch is live, with the home page reading “coming soon”.
