I am writing to you hoping you can raise awareness of the issues regarding travel with a passport which is invalid.

I know three people, within the last month who have arrived at an airport but were turned away as their passport is invalid. Obviously, this causes huge upset if you are a family excited about going on a summer holiday.

This issue is not one that can be fixed easily or quickly, quite often resulting in heavy financial loss and much heartache.

People automatically check the expiry on their passport but are unaware that they need to be valid for at least three months after the date you intend to leave the EU, and additionally, it needs to have been issued within the last 10 years, I feel this is the point people are unaware of.

Obviously, the law will not change, however, I feel it would be really valuable to highlight this issue to raise awareness before people travel and save avoidable heartache.
