Winchester-raised Bill Coles ended up worked on Fleet Street for The Sun in the 1990s and 2000s.
He went to school at Eton, studied in an English class with Boris Johnson, and was in a school year with Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer.
A legendary reporter, his claim to fame came from the fact that he went to the same school as Prince William. It meant a hectic time working for The Sun working on Royal stories. Bill also exposed US President Bill Clinton’s affair with his secretary as The Sun’s New York correspondent in 1997.
He was fascinated when a rival reporter for The Mirror infiltrated Buckingham Palace as a footman in 2003 to expose the serious lack of security during George Bush’s visit, winning Scoop of the Year.

And so, Bill has written a novel about it. Palace Rogue is loosely based on the events of this scandal. The main character Kim infiltrates the palace as a member of staff, but is secretly gathering juicy gossip as a reporter for The Sun. This rom com is packed full of love, laughs and scandals, and is well worth a read.
Bill hasn’t done all this without making any royal enemies, however. "For some reason, Prince Harry has taken against me. He particularly hates tabloid journalists."
Bill’s family live on a farm near Alresford, and Bill says that "my heart is in Hampshire, it’s home for me".
Written on the cover the Wall Street Journal says the book is "just too good not to be true".
If you like rom coms and royal scandal, this book is available to buy anywhere online.
