A WINCHESTER business has made its way to the UK's biggest music festival, breathing fresh air into Glastonbury.

HybO2, a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy clinic based in the centre of Winchester, recently showcased its therapy chambers at Camp Kerala.

As well as offering hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions at the camp, the company also presented a new bespoke prototype chamber.

The event was described by the company as a "resounding success".

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Those who undergo the therapy have to sit in what is essentially a big oxygen tank, known as a Hyperbaric Chamber.

A high concentration of oxygen is delivered to the lungs under increased atmospheric pressure in a hyperbaric chamber, the extra oxygen saturates the red blood cells and is carried around the body by the blood plasma enabling the delivery of high levels of oxygen to all tissues in the body.

The increase in available oxygen throughout the body allows a greater rate of cell division to take place, which is fundamental to tissue growth, regeneration, healing and repair, especially during the body’s recovery process after injury, surgery or illness.

Originally developed to treat divers suffering from the 'bends' as a result of rising to the ocean surface too quickly, HBOT involves breathing up to 95 per cent pure oxygen within a high-pressure chamber.

It is clinically proven to help with sports injuries, wound healing and head injuries.

It has also been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in hearing loss and severe skin and bone infection, and it is also being used to treat patients with long Covid.

As well as this, many use HBOT for vanity reasons, it has been proven to help improve complexion, with a recent clinical trial showing that collagen fibres increased in density.
