A SWANMORE woman was rescued from her flat by firefighters after her tumble dryer caught fire.

Firefighters from Droxford, Wickham and Bishop’s Waltham were called to the fire at the first floor flat on Cott Street on Sunday, June 4, just before 5pm.

The crews rescued the woman, who had suffered burns to her hands and smoke inhalation.

The ground floor of the building, The Hunters pub, was evacuated.

The woman was provided with immediate emergency care by the fire crews, before being passed into the care of paramedics.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus stopped the fire using hose reel jets before ventilating the property to clear the smoke. The crews left the scene at around 6pm.

Droxfield Fire Station said on Twitter: H41P4 and crew out this afternoon with our neighbours from Bishop’s Waltham and Wickham to a tumble dryer fire in Swanmore.  BA, hose reel and positive pressure ventilation used.

“Always take care with tumble dryers, don't overload and don't leave unattended”.

When contacted by the Chronicle, Hunters Inn manager Angela Farmer declined to comment.
