ROMSEY motorists have been facing long delays and congestion due to an ongoing event.

Residents have taken to Facebook to warn of long delays, suspected to have been caused by an all-day Dogstival event at Broadlands Estate.

Gridlocked traffic has been reported today, June 3, with some drivers warning others to stay away.

One user of the Romsey News and Information group on Facebook wrote: "Everyone, avoid travelling in and around Romsey by car. Gridlocked right now."

Another user explained: "There was a well-publicised event at Broadlands this weekend. Roads busy as visitors enter the showground - will quieten down before most people have commented on this post.

"Shop a little later, use your feet or a bike if you can."

The Broadlands Estate is hosting the annual dog festival Dogstival on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4. The festival celebrates dogs in all their forms, with stalls, activities and more.

When asked about the traffic, Dogstival co-founder and organiser Richard Newell confirmed that the festival had traffic control measures in place to ensure minimal disruption.

He said: "We do everything we can as responsible event owners to get people into the event site and parked as quickly as possible to minimise any traffic delays.

"Unfortunately, with a large-scale event, with about 4,000 or so people attending each day, there is going to be some additional traffic, so we thank the people of Romsey - lots of them attended and had a fantastic time - for a little bit of patience."
