THE South Downs National Park has launched its annual photo competition with the theme of “A New Perspective”.

Photographers, of all levels and abilities, are being challenged to capture a stunning view that showcases the South Downs from their perspective.

Judges are looking for viewpoints that are a bit out-of-the-ordinary and present the area as never seen before.

First-place prize is £250, with a runner-up prize of £100 and £50 for third place. Winners will be announced next year. The competition includes a wildlife category with a £75 reward for the best shot of wildlife living in the South Downs.

The mobile phone category also returns this year, with £75 for the top shot taken on a phone.

Younger photographers can enter the 10 years and under, for the chance of winning a family ticket to Birdworld, or the 11 to 17 categories with the first prize being a family pass to Marwell Zoo.

The judges include award-winning photographers Rachael Talibart, Finn Hopson and Carlotta Luke, as well as the deputy editor of the Outdoor Photography magazine Claire Blow.

Rachael Talibart said: “The park is full of variety, from spectacular vistas to quiet, overlooked details and, of course, some wonderful wildlife. I’m looking forward, as always, to seeing everyone’s entries and, in particular, I’m hoping to find a few surprises.”

Carlotta Luke added: “This year’s theme is a really great one. Our beautiful national park means many different things to the people who love and use it. We want people to show us their perspective on why they treasure the park and the details they find unusual. I can’t wait to see what we get sent.”

Entries close at midnight on Tuesday, October 31. For more information or to enter go to southdowns.gov.uk/care-for/photo-comp-2023/.
