A SEWING machine repair business has opened on a Hampshire industrial estate.

After leaving her job working on the frontline for the ambulance service and suffering with her own physical and mental health conditions, Katie Matthews decided that she needed to change direction.

This led her to revisit one of her crafting passions, sewing, and during the pandemic she began servicing sewing machines, many of which were being used to create PPE.

Once lockdown had lifted, Katie knew that sewing and creativity were becoming more popular and that loneliness and mental health issues were at an all-time high.

After much deliberation and selling her car to fund the idea, Katie decided to create a space where she could not only continue servicing sewing machines for those that needed them but where she could also run social events for people in her community, bringing them together to learn new skills and make new friends.

As well as being a local space Katie also knew she wanted it to be an accessible one and so K&B Sewing Machines opened up at Unit 24B Romsey Industrial Estate.

Katie said: "K&B Sewing Machines is fast becoming a local hub where like-minded creative individuals can meet up, have fun and learn together with over 300 people attending the last de-stash session."
