THE Lloyds Pharmacy at the Badger Farm Sainsbury’s superstore is set to close next week.

As previously reported, the pharmacy is one of 237 branches which are being closed across the UK due to “changing market conditions”.

The pharmacy will shut on Tuesday, April 18. It has been confirmed that Lloyds Pharmacies which are not based in Sainsbury’s will remain open.

City councillor for Badger Farm and Olivers Battery Brian Laming said that he is “disappointed” in the decision.

He said: “The residents' association has contacted Sainsbury’s and has yet to receive a reply other than a holding one.

“The problem is, this is the only pharmacy on this side of the town, and it’s leaving the residents of Badger Farm and Oliver's Battery without any facility that’s easy to get to. That’s our real concern and we have written to the chairman, to the managing director of Sainsbury’s and all we’ve got back from them is basically a holding email on several occasions. We wanted to work with them to see if there was a possibility of retaining a pharmacy of some sort on site.”

He continued: “We’ve got the doctors' surgery there and it makes sense to have a pharmacy in the area, so apart from feeling disappointed, there’s not a lot I can say.”

A note at the Lloyds Pharmacy reads: “We have been given a revised closure date for April 18, 2023, we understand and apologize for the inconvenience they may cause.

“We therefore will be running down the stock we have and are unable to order anymore so we won’t have access to a lot of medications.

“It is best to change pharmacies as soon as possible to ensure you get your medication on time. The NHS app is the simplest way to do this.”
