A NEW four-bed house is set to be built despite concerns over parking.

The house will replace four garages near Adcock Court, Horns Drove, in Rownhams.

The plans, submitted by Dereck Harris, were permitted by Test Valley Borough Council's southern area planning committee on March 15.

Objections were submitted to the council by two nearby residents.

Mr and Mrs Newman, of Horns Drove, said: “Rownhams is a small village and another four-bedroom house is not required and would add to the issues with parking and congestion on the roads. There has been no consideration for the current residents of Adcock Court or surrounding properties. We have lived here for 31 years and some of the other residents even longer and we the residents should have been offered first refusal on the land and garages.”

Rosie Bowditch-White said: “Having a four-bedroom house in between the car park will obstruct the back alleyway for the four house users which is also a safety hazard. The alleyway is for all the users of Adcock Court but if you are intending on building a house then one exit will be blocked off. Once a house is built in this area and the garages are taken down this also leaves a garden with no security.”

Nursling and Rownhams Parish Council objected on the grounds of 'overdevelopment' and potential 'parking congestion'.

The planning officer's report said: “This proposal seeks a dwelling with a detached garage, garden office and associated parking which can be provided on the site without significant harm to the appearance and character of the area, trees, highways, amenity or ecology.”

Some councillors agreed that it could cause parking concerns, but the plans were approved with three abstentions.
