PLANS for a pavilion at North Walls Recreation Ground in Winchester have been revitalised after the costs for the previous design soared.
Planning consent has now been granted for a new scheme, with designs by Stride Treglown, the same firm of architects that designed the leisure centre at Bar End and the new pavilion at King George V playing fields.
Winchester City Council commissioned the new design at the end of 2021 to simplify the original A R Design Studio scheme and bring costs within its budget - supplemented by the donations from many other organisations and individuals.
A quantity surveyor report has recently been commissioned to determine what the revised costs will be.

The costs from the previous plans increased from £800,000 to more than £1m due to inflation.
Building work for the new pavilion at King George V playing fields at Bar End is now well underway; and fundraisers hope work at North Walls will begin soon, with completion in 2024.
Although the new pavilion will no longer be that designed by the local architects at AR Design Studio, it will offer the people of Winchester and its surrounding district much-needed new facilities, both as a cricket and sports pavilion and for year-round community use.
