AN INDEPENDENT yoga studio in Winchester has opened a 'hot yoga' facility and is boasting the benefits of the infrared setting.

In addition to its traditional Solar studio, New Energy Yoga now has a Luna studio at its base in Parchment Street.

The business says it is the first hot yoga studio of its kind in the county and hopes to attract residents and yoga enthusiasts from across the south.

The Lunar studio is dark and warm and aims to transport visitors into a hypnotic state of mind where worries disappear.

Infrared panels heat the room, mimicking the feeling of sunlight on the skin and creating a sauna-like warmth. Meanwhile, a pure air filtration system has been installed to ensure people are breathing in fresh air.

Director Matt Cresswell said: “We are delighted to finally open our new studio and bring hot yoga to Winchester. We have done a painstaking amount of research to understand the detail of how to create the perfect environment for hot yoga and we know we have created something special.

“It has been fantastic for us to see so much interest, and it is great for Winchester to have investment in more high street facilities."

Speaking on the benefits of infrared, the director continued: “Infrared is a safe, therapeutic source of light that deeply penetrates muscles and helps the body to heal.

"Some more, and possible surprising, benefits of infrared are clearer skin and detoxification. The heat will increase the blood flow and oxygen to your skin, sweating out toxins and clearing the pores, without the damaging UV rays of the sun."

New Energy Yoga also lists improved collagen production as a reason to opt for hot yoga. Having more collagen boosts skin elasticity and reduces fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars for more youthful-looking skin.

The heat waves can also decrease anxiety and stress by stimulating brain chemicals such as dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin.

The Winchester yoga venue, which opened in 2017, believes people will be able to burn up to 900 calories in an hour of hot yoga due to higher metabolism in the heat. Other benefits include a strengthened immune system, pain and inflammation relief and the ability to stretch further with warmer muscles.

By contrast, the traditional Solar studio offers a bright and open space with bamboo flooring and large windows to allow in natural sunlight.

Customers can book onto their first hot yoga class for £11. For more information contact New Energy Yoga on 01962 454300 or go to newenergy.yoga/.
