A ROMSEY woman has been reunited with two pieces of 'precious' jewellery after writing a letter to the Romsey Advertiser.

Julie Brinton, of Winchester Road, lost her wedding ring and a pair of silver earrings.

Julie had taken both pieces to be repaired when she realised she had mislaid a small pink jewellery bag.

She wrote to the Advertiser, which is run by Newsquest and is a sister title to the Hampshire Chronicle, in the hope of being reunited with them.

In the letter, Julie wrote: “On Saturday, January 7 I lost a small pink jewellery bag containing two very precious items.

“Firstly, my wedding ring which broke on Christmas Eve. This is a ring made up of three bands of differing colours of gold and as I have been wearing it for the past 40 years, you can imagine how important it is to me.

“Secondly, the bag contained a pair of silver earrings which my daughter gave me for Christmas and as she had brought the earrings back from South American they had been damaged slightly in her luggage.

“I think the bag fell out of my handbag in the Co-op on The Hundred in Romsey and although I went back to search for it there was no sign of it.”

Then, just one week after the letter was published a lady contacted the Advertiser to say she had found the bag.

After being reunited with the items, Julie said: “After 40 years of marriage, my Russian wedding ring broke on Christmas Eve. A Russian wedding ring has three bands of different coloured gold and I had chosen it all those years ago because my husband to be had studied Russian at university and that seemed to be a lovely link between us.

“I decided to take it and some earrings my daughter had given me at Christmas to the jeweller to see if they could be mended. My daughter had brought the earrings back from South America where she had been working just before Christmas and they had got bent in her luggage.

“However when I got to the jeweller I couldn’t find the items in my bag. I decided to write a letter to the Romsey Advertiser and explained what had happened.

“Very luckily for me someone found the little jewellery bag and read the letter in the paper. I have now been reunited with the ring and the earrings.

“Many thanks to the lovely lady who found my ring!”
