A DEVELOPER has said it will maintain housing the elderly after buying Edwina Mountbatten House in Romsey.
Churchill Retirement Living has purchased the facility in Palmerston Street which closed last summer after rising costs made it uneconomic. The purchase price is undisclosed.
It said it was working on proposals and would hold public consultations.
In a statement released this morning, Churchill said: "We are delighted to have acquired Edwina Mountbatten House following a detailed process with the Edwina Mountbatten Romsey Memorial Trust, who took the decision to close the former care home in July 2022.
"Churchill has delivered two highly successful and popular independent retirement living developments in Romsey in the past and we hope our plans for this site will enable it to continue providing much needed housing options for older people in Romsey."
"Our plans are at an early stage and we look forward to engaging closely with local stakeholders to develop a suitable plan for the positive redevelopment of the site,” said the statement.
