Winchester's MP Steve Brine took time to meet up with the boss of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust recently.

Ron Shields, who leads the organisation that provides a wide range of mental health, physical health and learning disability services for people across Hampshire, travelled into the city to meet the MP at the General Store.

The pair discussed current winter pressures impacting the local NHS and Mr Brine received an update regarding proposals to develop a new NHS community, mental health and learning disability organisation for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

It will bring together services currently spread across Southern Health, Solent NHS Trust and CAMHS services provided by Sussex Partnership NHS Trust.

Mr Brine said: "Southern Health is a major provider of services to my constituents, the majority of which are in the area of mental health so I always want to hear what they are up to and how they can improve access.

"The new organisation - with a working title of FUSION - promises to transform services with a move from a small service with a relatively high threshold to access towards a much bigger one with more capacity. It is however some way off yet and I will want to stay very close to its development."
