A driver has suffered a serious injury following a collision with parked cars in the heart of Alresford.

Officers were called at 9.19am this morning (November 28) to reports of a crash on the B3046, Broad Street.

A vehicle had collided with parked cars.

The driver of the vehicle has suffered a serious injury.

Police originally shut the road while they dealt with the incident and motorists were asked to make alternative travel arrangements. It has since been reopened.

One of the parked cars, a black Mercedes, was left with significant damage.

Leonard Orton, 90, of Brood Street, said: "I only saw the ambulance. They took the driver away. The medics were very careful and considerate. It took them about 10 minutes to get them out of the car.

"It was a small car which crossed onto the kerb and hit the black Mercedes. There were a lot of police and medics."

An onlooker, who did not wish to be named, said: "I was sitting in my van and heard a loud bang. I saw loads of smoke coming out of the bonnet. It was around 8am. It was very sad."
