A WINCHESTER resident has released her first-ever cookbook, featuring plant-based and allergy-friendly recipes.

Le Cordon Bleu trained chef, Lucy Parr, is publishing her first cookbook The Friendly Baker with vegetarian recipes omitting common allergens such as dairy, egg, peanuts and sesame.

The Friendly Baker includes a selection of both sweet and savoury with more than 75 naturally plant-based recipes.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the book, Lucy said: “Both my daughters were diagnosed with multiple food allergies at a very young age, meaning I had to change my approach to food to cater for them completely.

“I desperately didn’t want them to miss out so I made it my mission to recreate anything- within reason- so they could enjoy the same as others."

Over the years the chef, known on Twitter as ‘Lucy’s Friendly Foods’, developed more than 800 unique allergy-friendly recipes. Lucy’s recipes have been featured online at VegNews, the Waitrose website, Finding Vegan, Taste Spotting and Brilliant Baking Mag as well as in print within The Guardian Cook magazine and Free-from Heaven Magazine.

The mother of two continued: “The recipes are friendly not just because they are suitable for allergies, but they are also planet-friendly as they don’t contain any animal products.

“The obvious next step was to take the recipes into print to make these friendly recipes even more accessible to a wider audience.”

The Friendly Baker is available to buy now in P&G Wells, Waterstones, Open House Deli, Lemon and Jinja in Romsey, and many local independent bookstores and gift shops. The book is also available to purchase online via the Meze Publishing Website, Amazon and Book Depository.
