A DRESS made entirely of knitted and crocheted poppies is taking pride of place at Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill to mark Remembrance Day.

Volunteers at the care home’s community hub co-ordinated the creation of the dress which is made of more than 1,000 poppies.

It took the team of volunteers more than 20 hours to assemble the dress. Among the volunteers who made the dress is Janet Palmer who knitted more than 800 of its poppies.

Vilma Patrizio, Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill’s hub manager said: “We have had poppies coming from far and wide including Italy, Leeds, from the local community in Otterbourne and also from a knitting charity call Hookers and Clickers.

“This has very much been a community effort and we are very grateful to everyone who has contributed poppies for this dress.”

The dress is now on display in the reception area of Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill until Remembrance Sunday (November 13).

Last year, Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill created a cascade of knitted and crocheted poppies which was attached to its outside wall for residents, colleagues, volunteers and visitors to enjoy.
