It has been a busy week for the cadets and staff of 1391 (Romsey) Squadron Air Training Corps.

On Monday, October 24, four cadets traveled to MoD Boscombe Down north of Salisbury to fly in RAF Grob Tutor training planes with 2 Air Experience Flight.

Each of the cadets had already been briefed on aircraft systems and what they would do during their flight and on arrival at the airfield they received the safety briefings and donned the correct flying clothing.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Each flight lasted for about 40 minutes during which time each of the cadets got to take control of the aeroplane from the pilot as well as undertaking aerobatics like loops, rolls and stall turns.

Corporal Jonathan Lowe said: “It was an excellent experience and I look forward to flying again soon.”

The day after, October 24, flying 12 cadets undertook their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s award expedition.

The cadets have been preparing for the walk since the spring and were due to walk in the summer but were thwarted by the remarkably hot temperatures which caused a postponement.

Hampshire Chronicle:

The cadets walked for over six hours each day navigating their way along footpaths in the Test Valley before pitching tents and cooking themselves a meal. The weather was kinder that it looked like it was going to be with a dry day on day one and only a few showers on day two. All twelve completed the expedition and are now continuing to work on the other aspects of the award.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Cadet Alex Jones said: “It was good to complete this section of the award especially after the summer delays. I hope to complete my Bronze award by Easter.”
