A LEADING sculptor will be sharing his experience of organising major exhibitions across the country and how sculptors utilise the landscape.

Founding director of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Sir Peter Murray will be discussing sculpture, space and landscape on stage at The Arc, Winchester on Saturday, November 12 at 11am.

Sir Murray founded the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 1977 and has since organised major exhibitions such as Andy Goldsworthy, which won the South Bank Show Award for Visual Arts in 2008. The sculpture venue became Museum of the Year in 2014.

The talk, hosted by the Hampshire Cultural Trust, is the last of the events programme coinciding with the Infinite Beauty exhibition. Sir Peter Murray will be drawing upon his experience working alongside some of the most important sculptors of the last four decades on major exhibitions and site-specific projects in the country. He will look to examine how artists, in particular sculptors, utilise the landscape and other spaces to create and site works.

Director of arts and culture at Hampshire Cultural Trust, Beck Jeffrey, said: "We are delighted that Sir Peter Murray will be sharing his extensive knowledge of sculptures and their use of landscapes and spaces with our audience at The Arc. We hope visitors enjoy learning more about the exhibition’s themes through this considerable programme."

In 1988, Murray was awarded the National Arts Collection Fund Award and in 1989 was made Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art, as well as Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. He has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from the University of Lincolnshire and North Humberside, the University of Huddersfield, York University and the University of the Arts, London. In 1996, Murray was awarded an OBE for services to the arts and more recently received a CBE for continued services to the arts. This year the sculptor was awarded a Knighthood before stepping down as executive director of Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
