A GO karting track has reopened after a refurbishment that cost £1.7m and took three months to complete.

Teamsports indoor karting opened on Friday with newly-added features over two floors, including a multi-level 500m track, with karts that go up to 40mph, crazy golf, an arcade and a new socialising area.

Opening the doors to the remodelled location in Eastleigh, project manager Dave Rich, 44, said: “We have been able to do something really special here unlike anything we’ve done in the UK.

“The new colour, and look with the bar area, mini golf and the arcade has made this site from being the oldest and under-invested site to our newest and most invested site.

“It took three months to do everything from start to finish and that includes ripping out pretty much everything that was here initially and then starting from scratch.”

Teamsports has 35 tracks across the UK, including courses in Gosport, Brighton and Farnborough.

The site at Barton Park, Chickenhall Lane, Eastleigh first opened more than 25 years ago but now includes all-new mini golf, a restaurant area and a new track - which Mr Rich says was part of a drive to bring more activities to the centres.

Mr Rich said: “People want to do more with their leisure, and they want to do it in one place and that has born this new hub experience where you can do karting, but you can also do in-door golf and have some nice food and a drink and something with the kids with the arcade.

“So, our progression is more towards multi-activity centres but not losing our focus on the karts because that’s our hero product.

“For us, it’s all about the driving experience, we don’t want people to come and have a nice shiny centre and everything looks really good but actually the driving experience isn’t that good so for us is about creating a unique multi-level circuit that is fun to drive.”

Lastly, customers should expect nothing less than fun when they step into the venue.

Mr Rich said: "As you walk into our site it says it’s about to get awesome, it’s about coming in and having an awesome experience and something for everyone."

The minimum age for go karting at the venue is eight years old.
