A WINCHESTER handyman is helping the community cut the costs for odd jobs that need doing.

Simon Gaffney, owner of Innate Spaces Ltd, is offering his help to the Winchester community to help people amid the cost-of-living crisis.

The carpenter, from Winnall, posted on the social media site nextdoor, on October 4, to inform locals he will be providing a day of free labour at the beginning of every month.

The multi-traded business owner has encouraged anyone in need of minor work who doesn’t have the funds to get in contact.

Simon, 38, said: “I decided to offer my services one day a month for free as I am aware that the cost of living is crippling and people who may need work doing urgently could not afford to have it rectified.

“I am working my way through a lot of requests, most seem to be from people who have issues with doors and windows which are letting cold air in and forcing them to generate more heat to keep warm. I am booked in to reseal doors and windows and even replace some kitchen taps which have not worked for some time. They are only small tasks but if they make someone’s life a little easier- that’s what it’s all about.”

Simon’s business Innate Spaces provides hand-crafted luxury shepherd huts for both the private and corporate sectors. The rising cost-of-living has caused work to decline for the bespoke building company so Mr Gaffney felt it was important to try and help others who were struggling.
