A TREE to commemorate the platinum jubilee of the late Queen was unveiled at Romsey Hospital recently.

The ceremony was attended by Countess Mountbatten of Burma with staff and patients of the hospital, in Winchester Hill, on October 10.

Representatives from the Romsey Hospital League of Friends were in attendance. They organised the tree planting and maintain the garden for staff and residents to enjoy.

Hampshire Chronicle:

The countess said: "On behalf of The League of Friends of Romsey Hospital, it is a pleasure and an honour to plant a tree to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

"The League of Friends should be proud of its work and what it achieves. I am proud to have been a patron for more than 40 years.

Hampshire Chronicle:

"I believe that it is the traditional organisations and charities, local, small and manned by volunteers, that are our country's bedrock of selflessness and kind consideration for others. I know our late Queen agreed."

Elaine Grainger, chairman of the Romsey Hospital League of Friends, said: "We had a lot of help from Landford Trees to decide what sort of tree and they came to dig the hole and plant it for us. We thought it would be nice for the patients to see."
