McDonald's in Winchester city centre was forced to close today (September 26) following reports of flooding inside.
The popular fast-food restaurant in St George's Street placed a notice on the front door saying that it had closed due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.
The notice said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to open at this time. Apologies for the inconvenience."
It is currently unknown when it will be able to reopen.
A member of staff told the Chronicle that it had been closed due to flooding, but was unsure what had caused it.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Due to an issue with a water leak, our Winchester restaurant was forced to temporarily close earlier today. Engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue and we hope to re-open as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
A fire engine was spotted close to the area. A Hampshire Fire Service spokesman said: "Winchester firefighters were called at 12.55pm this afternoon after an alarm was sounding in a retail premises on the High Street.
"The alarm was caused by flooding inside the building which was handed over to an onsite team to resolve.
"The crew returned to station at 1.07pm."
The spokesman confirmed that this was referring to McDonald’s.
