Queues of elderly residents faced delays as a pop-up Covid vaccination clinic at South Winchester Park and Ride experienced teething problems earlier this week.

People over the age of 75 were invited to book a seasonal booster ahead of a predicted spike in winter cases.

However, as they turned up for their allotted appointments on Monday morning - the first day of the clinic - a technical issue meant pensioners were left standing while staff dealt with the hiccup.

One resident, who wished not to be named, turned up for her appointment at 9.20am only to be met by the backlogs. Unsure how long it would take before queues died down, the 81-year-old, who suffers with shingles, said she turned around and went home.

"It was very frustrating," she said. "It wasn't a patch on the clinic they had at Badger Farm, at least they had chairs in case something went wrong."

She has since successfully booked an alternative slot.

Pharmacy2U, the company supporting the NHS with the vaccination rollout, admitted it suffered a 'minor' technical issue which was quickly resolved.

A spokesperson said: “Our South Winchester Park and Ride vaccine site experienced a minor technical issue on Monday morning, which resulted in some patients’ appointments running slightly behind schedule.

"The issue was resolved quickly, however, we apologise for any inconvenience caused. We can assure patients that the South Winchester Park and Ride site is functioning as normal and invite them to book for their Covid and flu vaccines via our website.”
