A YURT-based nursery celebrated eight years since opening its unique outdoor learning environment.

Farley Nursery Schools opened its yurt nursery in Sparsholt on September 8, 2014. The Sparsholt base includes three yurt classrooms in the two-acre site surrounded by the fields of Sparsholt College. Children from the nature nursery are regular visitors to the zoo and dairy farm at Sparsholt College.

To mark the occasion, Farley Nursery Schools posted on Facebook a selection of “throwback” photos from the past eight years.

Nursery owner Megan Courtney said: “We celebrated by looking back at old photos and seeing how the nursery has changed. The children loved looking at the pictures and comparing to how the nursery looks now. It’s lovely to see how much the nursery has grown and how it is still the outstanding setting providing amazing care to the children and their families who attend.”

The ash framework of the yurts is locally sourced, whilst the canvas frames are covered with organic sheep’s wool to provide more warmth in winter. Children at the nursery progress between five groups, based on development rather than age. For more go to storal-learning.co.uk/our-nurseries/farley-nursery-school-sparsholt/.
