A FORMER Winchester woman is setting off on the challenge of a lifetime to raise money for charity.

Emma Kirkby-Geddes, who now lives in West Yorkshire with her husband, Mick, will be cycling across Cuba in November to boost funds for Women for Women, an organisation that supports women scientists and clinicians.

Mum-of-two Mrs Kirkby-Geddes, who is also using the event to mark her 40th birthday this year, was a pupil at Westgate School in the 1980s and went onto Peter Symonds College and Winchester School of Art.

She said: "I'm a bit daunted by the challenge ahead, especially the number of kilometres we have to cover each day and the humid conditions. But I am determined to raise the £3,000 for such a good cause."
