FEEDBACK from locals has inspired a UK retirement home developer's name for its new retirement living development in Romsey.

McCarthy Stone, a UK leading developer and manager of retirement communities, has revealed its new Retirement Living development in Abbotswood Common Road, in Romsey, has been named Glebe Court.

The age-exclusive developer asked locals to name the new development, giving them the opportunity to put their stamp on the Romsey community. The winning submission was from local resident, Fern Seaforth, who put forward Glebe Court for its unique medieval history, with Glebe meaning plot of cultivated land.

The winning contributor said: “I wanted to choose a name that had a connection with the other local road names in the area, and they all have reference to the medieval period. Romsey began as a Saxon village and it is known for being a historic market town, so it seemed only fitting to include this history in the name of the new development.”

Nicki Beswarick, divisional marketing manager at McCarthy Stone Southern, said: “We wanted to choose a name for our new Romsey development that was not only meaningful, but that would also resonate with local people. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Fern for naming our new development, Glebe Court.”

McCarthy Stone has also revealed a first look of its brand-new Retirement Living development in Romsey, with a CGI recently released to show how Glebe Court will look once complete. Properties are expected to be open for off-plan sales in November 2022.

Nicki Beswarick continued: “We are looking forward to the launch of Glebe Court when apartment specifications and prices will be released. Early birds will benefit from purchasing off-plan by having the pick of all the available plots. It is an incredibly exciting time for our business as interest in the site is high amongst retirees who already live in Romsey, as well as with those who are looking to downsize from further afield to take advantage of the enviable independent lifestyle that will be available once the development is complete. We encourage anyone interested in finding out more to get in touch now.”
