A SITE manager has been recognised as one of the country’s best for his commitment to delivering high-quality new homes.

Senior site manager for Cala Homes’ Kings Barton, Geoff Walker, brought home one of the National Home Building Council’s (NHBC) ‘Pride in the Job’ quality awards.

Mr Walker is among 12 site managers from across the Cala Homes development business to receive the accolade.

More than 8,000 UK site managers were assessed for the award with a total of 443 winners selected, placing them in the top fiver per cent of leaders within the industry.

The Kings Barton manager will now proceed to the next stage of the competition, the Seal of Excellence, due to be announced in the autumn.

He said: “It is an honour to be shortlisted for this award having worked four years at Cala Homes. The awards aim to raise the standard in house building which I believe they definitely have done.

“The Kings Barton site would not have been possible without the support and dedication of my team, and I am extremely grateful to be recognised for this award. Congratulations to all other finalists especially my 11 other colleagues – this really demonstrates the hard work and calibre achieved across the Cala Group.”

Andrew Wagstaff, managing director for Cala Homes Thames, added: “The talent and dedication of our site managers, their teams both on site and in office and their supporting subcontractor partners is essential to creating such exceptional developments and homes"

“Recently, site managers have had to overcome challenges affecting the whole industry such as material shortages and labour supply, but our team has remained focused on ensuring the vision for each development is delivered on time, safely and to the highest quality.

“Congratulations to Geoff Walker and the 11 other successful site managers across the Cala Group. We wish them all the best of luck as the awards progress on to the next stage.”

Judging for the ‘Pride in the Job’ competition began in July 2021, with each site manager being assessed across six key areas including consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety. Throughout the past year thousands of site inspections and thorough scoring and verification have taken place to decide the winners.
