CHRISTMAS decrations have hit the High Street 17 weeks early as businesses launch their festive lines.

Popular Winchester haberdashery, Closs and Hamblin has displayed its Christmas decorations three months early as they get ready for the festive period.

It comes as the High Street store aims to give shoppers enough time to purchase and make their calenders in time for the Christmas period.

Manager Tom Sawyer, who is in charge of putting the displays together, said: "Everyone has busy lives so we get this sort of thing in early. It has to be sold before the end of November because the advent starts in December.

It means we put a window in in August to tell everybody we have the stock. We try and set it out so it's easy. Customers can go to the window and ask if we have the specific panel they're looking for.

"This is the exciting time of year because people come here for their presents and yarn, so it's imperative that we get it right and we make it as easy as possible for our customers."

Anna Gealbuquerque, from Winchester stopped to check out the Christmas display. She said: "I love the shop. You can't start early enough for Christmas. I think it's really good."
