EARLIER this month, new signage appeared on planters along Winchester high street, highlighting other points of interest away from the central High Street.

In addition to the signs directing to Little Minster Street, Parchment Street and St Thomas Street installed over the last few years, Winchester Business Improvement District (BID) has introduced signs on planters at both ends of the thoroughfare to encourage people to “discover more of Winchester”.

Winchester BID posted the update on Facebook on Tuesday, August 16.

Business Improvement District Manager Sarah Davis said: “This is a scheme implemented by Winchester BID to help direct people to locations where there are more shops, eateries, services and attractions off the main pedestrianised High Street.

“The aim is to add to the existing signage, such as totems and finger posts which are managed by the local authorities, to help visitors to discover more of Winchester. We hope that they will help to move footfall around the city and to the side streets and other areas which otherwise might be missed where there is more to see and do.”

The organsiation believes the extra signage has been well recieved by the Winchester public.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Winchester BID, based in Parchment Street aims to support business growth in the city and promote Winchester city centre as a place to visit. All of the work that Winchester BID delivers, including the new signs, is funded by the businesses in the BID area
